I prefer mine with only one seat.

They used those in the Korean War, I read, and downed some of the first North Korean aircraft in theater. Which is insane, considering what a weird idea the F-82 was. I imagine a sort of P-38 design with a single cockpit in the middle and dual cockpitless engines with twin booms might work better, but hey what the hell

I posted a pic of one of these in a comment earlier. Glad I’m not the only one who thought about this.

For a minute, I thought you had found I fighter I had never heard of. That does look good, though.

They were originally designed to be ultra-long-range escorts, a role which they actually carried out in Korea. And yes, the first Allied kills of Korea were done by F-82s. I can’t explain the design theories behind the F-82 except to surmise that having the pilots in separate fuselages would eliminate the weight of a center fuselage section. The F-82 still holds the record for the longest flight of a piston-powered fighter when one flew from Hickam Field in Hawaii to New York on one tank of gas.

I remember that post. Love that Redtail P-51C. I also like the P-51B with the Spitfire style canopy.

While the D is undoubtedly the king, I do really love the way the razorback looks.

I stop in and look at the Allen cllection a couple times a year. The variety is great and on nice weekends they’ll put on a little fly in. Two ships mainly photo op stuff.

Sabre on a boat. Kind of strange seeing that USN paint job on a Sword.
